OCG to meet opposition on mandate

2012-09-18 17:48:34 | (0 Comments)

The Contractor General Greg Christie is to meet with the parliamentary opposition next week, as he seeks a clarification of his role.

Last week, Christie wrote to the Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness, and Prime minister Portia Simpson Miller asking them to clearly state their position on his office’s monitoring and investigation of government contracts and divestments.

He said the Office of the Contractor General was currently in a state of organisational ineffectiveness, disillusionment, and uncertainty and urgently needed a clarification of its role.

Today, the Jamaica Labour party said Christie has accepted its invitation to meet with shadow cabinet members next Monday.

Opposition Spokesperson on Information Senator, Arthur Williams, said members of the shadow Cabinet believe the OCG plays a critical role in safeguarding the public interest and has been an important agent in the fight against corruption.
