Fire personnel today had to use a stretcher to lift a woman from the Sandy Gully in the vicinity of the Dunrobin community in St Andrew.

A man who was also in the gully was able to walk, but he had to be assisted to get out.

Residents say the man has been living in the gully for some time.

However, they became concerned after realising that he appeared ill.

The woman who was also laying in the gully appeared to have been in worse condition.

The emergency personnel were called and both people taken to hospital.
