Corporal's killing puzzles MIT

The Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) says it’s looking into whether last night’s killing of a police corporal was random, a contract killing or related to his work.

But the MIT says it has not settled on any motive for Corporal Warren Campbell’s murder.

The head of the MIT, Superintendent Michael Phipps, says the police have some information on the killing.

He says they are now recording statements in relation to the matter.

Corporal Campbell, who served in the Organised Crime Investigation Division, OCID, was shot dead by gunmen around 8:45 pm outside his home in Patrick City, St. Andrew.

Campbell had just been taken home from work by his colleagues but went back outside, reportedly to speak with a woman.

That’s when men drove up in a car and opened fire hitting him multiple times in his upper body.

The men then sped away.

The corporal was pronounced dead at hospital.

His service weapon was not taken by the killers and sources report that the woman was not injured.
