The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating the killing of two men in Rose Heights, St James by the police.
The men were reportedly killed during a confrontation in the area early Saturday morning. Dead are 28-year-old Oneik Whyte, otherwise called “Bigga,” and 33-year-old Paul Hillary, also known as “ Pawdie,” both of Hopeton District in the parish. Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network are that at 3:40 Saturday morning, members of a police team were challenged by gunmen and a shootout ensued. When the shooting subsided, Whyte and Hillary were found with gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital, where both men were pronounced dead. A Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a magazine containing several 9mm cartridges were also seized. The matter was subsequently reported to INDECOM.
