The long-awaited trial of police sergeant Lloyd Kelly is set to get underway in the Home Circuit Court today.
Kelly is charged with the murder of a St. Ann man Ian Lloyd, otherwise called ‘Chen-Singh’. The shooting happened July 29, 2010 and was captured on amateur video. The video-recorded shooting had sparked public outrage, after being broadcast in sections of the media. It is alleged that the police were called to the community of Buckfield in St. Ann, following an incident involving Chen-Singh and a woman. It is reported that Chen-Singh, who was from Pineapple in Ocho Rios had stabbed the woman to death. A constable, who was part of the police team which went to apprehend Chen-Singh, was caught on tape beating him while he was on the ground. A plain-clothes policeman identified as Detective Sergeant Lloyd Kelly was caught on tape shooting a subdued Chen-Singh in full view of on-lookers. The policeman has since been charged with murder. radio@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
