Detective Corporal Warren Campbell - Contributed.
Details of Thursday night’s murder of police corporal Warren Campbell are now emerging and there are reports that the cop had shot two of his attackers.
Corporal Campbell was killed near his home in Patrick City, St. Andrew shortly before 9 p.m. while walking with his female companion.
Our sources say the corporal had just been taken home by his colleagues from the Organised Crime Investigation Division, but returned to the street with his girlfriend to buy a meal.
While walking along the road, a car drove up and two men reportedly alighted.
An argument reportedly developed, during which one of the men fired a shot.
The corporal is said to have then pulled his firearm and shot the two men, when the driver got out of the car and shot the cop several times in his chest killing him.
The woman was not harmed.
It is reported that the injured men were taken to the Spanish Town hospital an hour later, where they reported that they were shot and injured during a robbery in a St. Catherine community.
They have since been taken into police custody.
The Nissan motor car in which they had travelled to the hospital has also been seized by the police.
Last night, a senior cop confirmed that the men were in their custody, but referred all questions to the head of the Major Investigation Task Force, Superintendent Michael Phipps.
However contacted last night, Phipps said he was not in a position to speak.
