The management of a Kingston-based medical lab is refuting claims that the wife of alleged St Thomas killer cop Corporal Dwayne Smart was fired from her job.

According to a company spokeswoman, the woman was sent on leave but she will be paid on compassionate grounds for two months.

The spokeswoman could not say for how long the woman will be on leave however, she said the company’s Board is to discuss the matter after which a decision will be made on the future of the cop’s wife.

She further said the decision to send the woman on leave was made on security grounds since she has been under police protection and had to move from St Thomas following the incident involving her husband.

Meanwhile, the management has highlighted that the position of the cop's wife as stated in her contract is temporary, and may be terminated at any time based on performance or the needs of the company.

Smart’s attorney Valerie Neita Robertson told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre this morning that the woman was dismissed from her job because it was claimed that she poses a security risks for her co-workers.
