WESTERN BUREAU:

Three of the four defendants in the highly-publicised Mount Alvernia kidnapping case pleaded guilty to child-stealing, when they appeared in the St James Circuit Court today.

They are 23-year-old cabinet-maker Jonathan “Clevaugn” Mitchell, 22-year-old barber Trevon Tomlinson, and a 17-year-old accomplice, who will return to court for sentencing on October 17.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old counsellor Jenise Regisford of Cornwall Courts, Montego Bay will be tried on a separate kidnapping indictment on October 8.

The four had previously been scheduled to go on trial on charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap and conspiracy to extort, stemming from the abduction of a three-year-old Mount Alvernia Preparatory School student in St James on May 3, 2011.

The child, who was taken from the school while waiting to be picked up by his parents, was found unharmed hours later in Manchester.

The four accused were later arrested and charged.
