The Ministry of Education is calling for urgent attention to be given to the risks children face following the recent acts of violence against minors in Jamaica.
In expressing regret and sorrow, the Ministry says Jamaican children are now exposed to brutal attacks. It says children must be allowed to enjoy their youth in a country without fear of violation. The Ministry says education cannot take place in a community steeped in fear. The ministry says its Health and Family Life curriculum has been developed to cover appropriate human behaviour and development. Meanwhile, The Institute for Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies is blaming the acts of sexual violence against women and children on the unequal power relations in society. It notes that most rapes are committed against women and girls. It says Jamaicans must renew their commitment to eliminate all forms of violence against females. editorial@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
