UTech students get extension to pay fees

Jerome Reynolds, Gleaner Writer

Students at the University of Technology (UTech)have been given a one week extension to pay their tuition and other fees.

The deadline for payment should have been tomorrow otherwise students would have been de-registered.

Student Union president Karen Manning-Henry says students who pay “out of pocket” are now required to pay up a minimum of 50 percent of their fees instead of the initial 70 percent as was required by the university.

And she says those who are receiving financing through the Students’ Loan Bureau are required to pay at least 30 percent of their fees.

The UTech Student Union president says this extension will benefit at least 5,000 students.

Manning-Henry is encouraging students to make their payments at least two clear days before the extended deadline to avoid any hiccups come next Friday.
