Mavado assault trial postponed until next February

Dancehall entertainer David 'Mavado' Brooks is to go to court on February 12 next year on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The date was set when the matter came up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The charge stemmed from an incident earlier this year at a nightclub in New Kingston.

Mavado is accused of attacking a policeman at the nightclub.

An arrest warrant had been issued for the deejay but was stayed until yesterday, as the artiste was overseas and unable to return for trial.

The warrant was vacated and the matter set for February 12 after attorney-at-law Peter Champagne indicated to the court that he was engaged in a jury matter in the Supreme Court.
