NewsBuff Bay Valley road blocked, NWA moves in2012-09-30 11:03:13 | (0 Comments)
The National Works Agency (NWA) says a section of the Buff Bay Valley main road in Portland remains impassable due to landslides caused by heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.
According to the NWA, close to 10 metres of roadway between Silver Hill and Section is blocked by trees and boulders washed down by the heavy rains. NWA senior communications officer, Colin Morrison says crews and heavy equipment have been dispatched to the area to begin the process of clearing the roadway. However, he says while the crews have begun removing trees and other debris, the NWA will wait until the weather improves before using the heavy equipment to clear boulders. The NWA says there is no alternative route and is urging residents of Section to use the Buff Bay Valley end of the corridor. Residents in Silver Hill and adjacent communities are urged to use the route from Papine.
