The Meteorological Service has extended the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of all parishes until 5 o’clock this afternoon.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH means that flash flooding is possible.

Residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.

The Met Service notes that even though there has been a reduction in rainfall activity overnight, the Area of Low Pressure remains over the western Caribbean and continues to influence weather conditions across Jamaica.

The agency says this means periods of showers and thunderstorms are still expected over most parishes this afternoon and into tonight.

It says showers could be heavy at times and as a result, flash flooding is possible over low-lying and flood-prone areas. The Met Service says significant improvement is not expected until late tomorrow.

Fishers and other marine interests are being advised to exercise caution as strong, gusty winds could be experienced in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.
