Pregnant woman allegedly killed by police buried today

2012-09-30 18:24:10 | (0 Comments)

It was a mixture of grief and anger from relatives and friends who turned out today to bid farewell Kayann Lamont at a thanksgiving service at the Yallahs High School in St Thomas.

Twenty-six-year old Lamont, who was eight months pregnant, was killed by bullets from a policeman's gun on September 1 in Yallahs. It is alleged that Lamont and the accused, Corporal Dwayne Smart, got into an altercation after he attempted to arrest her for using indecent language.

Today’s funeral saw hundreds of mourners, including political representatives crowding the corridors and the lawn of the institution.

It was a traumatic moment for some as tears flowed freely while they viewed the body of Lamont along with her baby, which was placed by her side.

Opposition spokesperson on youth, sports, gender affairs, entertainment and culture, Olivia Grange expressed that the nation is in trouble. Grange especially lamented the fact that no effort was placed on saving the baby when Lamont was shot.
