Motorists trapped in Bog Walk Gorge

2012-09-30 20:20:17 | (0 Comments)

Scores of people are now trapped in the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine as heavy rains continue to pelt the island.

One motorist says for more than an hour, vehicles have not been able to move.

The line of vehicles spans hundreds of metres from near Flat Bridge where the worried motorist says she has been since some time before 7 o’clock.

“I have called the police three times,” she said in a desperate tone.

Contacted a short while the Constabulary Communication Network said the delay is being caused by a vehicle which has broken down in the Gorge.

However a CCN spokeswoman said the police are trying to get a wrecker to the location to remove the disabled vehicle.

But with the rain continuing and the Rio Cobre swelling these are uncomfortable moments for the trapped people.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management has since issued an advisory that the Gorge is closed.

Motorists advised to use the alternative routes.
