Bog Walk Gorge reopens, Fern Gully to be closed

2012-10-01 13:29:30 | (0 Comments)

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that Fern Gully main road in St. Ann will be closed for an indefinite period because a section has been undermined.

The NWA said the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine is now open to vehicular traffic.

However, NWA Communications Manager, Stephen Shaw is advising motorists to proceed with caution.

In the meantime, persons in the communities of Mount Horeb and Mount Prospect are unable to leave or enter these areas.

The NWA said this is because the main road from Golden Spring to Mount Airy is blocked.

The agency is also warning that the roadways from Cooper Ridge to Guava Ridge, Silver Hill Gap to Guava Ridge and Papine to Bull Bay in St Andrew are impassable

In St Thomas, the main road from Trinityvillle to Cedar Valley is blocked due to multiple landslides.

In Portland, the main road from Section to Silver Hill Gap and Folly to Fair Prospect remain impassable.

The NWA said crews are working on clearing these roads.

According to the agency, some 16 corridors in the parishes of St Andrew, St Ann, St Thomas, St Catherine and Portland were affected by heavy rainfall and remain blocked.

It said it also received reports of damage being done to the gully in the Red Hills Road and Waterloo Road areas.
