Paulwell to update nation on LNG plans

Energy minister, Phillip Paulwell, is expected to put an end to speculation on the status of the government’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) programme with a statement to the House of Representatives today.

There have been reports that the government has decided to abandon plans to introduce LNG in the country.

Sources have said the Government is likely to revert to plans B and C, which will see the JPS being allowed to establish the LNG infrastructure and source the gas for the Old Harbour plant.

Last week, opposition spokesman on energy, Gregory Mair said there was uncertainty in the country following the reports and urged Paulwell to provide an update.

However, Paulwell refused saying he would make a statement to the House today.

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica has said it is expecting Paulwell to be transparent, when he provides information on the way forward for the introduction of LNG.
