Corruption trial of senior cop resumes

The prosecution is to respond today to a no-case submission as the corruption trial of Senior Superintendent of Police, Assan Thompson resumes in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

SSP Thompson’s lawyer had argued that the charge against him should be dismissed as the crown has failed to prove its case.

The senior policeman is charged with breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.
He has pleaded not guilty.

The policeman is accused of not providing the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption with a quantity surveyor's report for a property on Karachi Avenue, St Andrew.

Under the law, public servants are required to declare their assets and liabilities to the Commission annually.

The sole witness called by the crown David Grey, who is the Secretary Manager to the Commission, had testified that up to the time he was charged, SSP Thompson had not furnished the document.
