Mobile number portability nears

2012-10-07 17:54:36 | (0 Comments)

The government says it is on track for Thursday’s consultations on implementing mobile number portability.

The Minister of Science Technology Energy and Mining says the process is at a “significant stage” and could be implemented this financial year.

Number portability was made possible with the passage of amendments to the Telecommunications Act earlier this year. It will allow Jamaicans to keep existing mobile phone numbers when they switch telecommunications service providers.

Discussions on Thursday are set for the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) Auditorium in New Kingston at 5:00 in the afternoon.
