Authorities probe Antigua plane crash

CMC – The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCA) has begun investigations into Sunday’s plane crash at the VC Bird International airport in Antigua.

At a press conference following the incident, ECCA Director, Donald Macfield said he was unable to provide a timeline for the investigations and warned it could take some time.

The nine seater Fly Montserrat aircraft that was destined for Montserrat crashed onto Runway Seven shortly after take off.

The pilot, Jason Forbes from Antigua and a female passenger died on the scene.

According to media reports the woman, whose name has not been released is a Jamaican, who taught math at the Montserrat Secondary School.

Reports indicate that the third victim was a Guyanese national who was on her way to Montserrat to visit her daughter.

The sole survivor who is said to be in critical condition at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre is a young man, believed to be a Montserratian.

The accident is believed to be the first major aviation incident here since a plane nosedived into the sea at Dutchman’s Bay in the 1980’s.
