The Road Safety Unit is predicting that the number of children killed on the roads will decrease by 64 per cent this year compared to 2011.
Figures from the unit indicate that at least 189 persons have been killed in 165 crashes since the start of the year.
It says child deaths account for about 4 per cent of those fatalities.
In the meantime, the unit has reported that up to last Thursday, pedestrians accounted for 31 per cent of the road users killed in traffic crashes.
At the same time, it says pedestrian fatalities have decreased by 30 per cent when compared with the similar period last year.
The Road Safety Unit says 58 pedestrians have died as a result of 57 fatal pedestrian crashes since January.
