WESTERN BUREAU:

The female defendant in the highly-publicised Mount Alvernia kidnapping case had her trial put off until December 4, when she appeared in the St James Circuit Court today.

Twenty-six-year-old counsellor Jenise Regisford of Cornwall Courts, Montego Bay had her bail extended until the new court date.

Regisford had previously been charged for kidnapping along with 23-year-old cabinet-maker Jonathan “Clevaugn” Mitchell, 22-year-old barber Trevon Tomlinson and a 17-year-old accomplice, who will return to court for sentencing on October 17.

When Regisford appeared in court today, lead prosecutor Jeremy Taylor asked that the defendant’s trial date be set before another judge, on the grounds that presiding judge Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle is to conduct sentencing on the other three accused.

The four had previously been scheduled to go on trial on charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap and conspiracy to extort, stemming from the abduction of a three-year-old Mount Alvernia Preparatory School student in St James on May 3, 2011.

The child, who was taken from the school while waiting to be picked up by his parents, was found unharmed hours later in Manchester.

The four accused were later arrested and charged.
