As the race for the post of General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) heats up, the Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has been reliably informed that that incumbent, Aundre Franklin, has pulled out of the contest.

Concrete sources inside the party say Franklin has set his eyes on becoming the deputy chairman of the party.

In recent times at least two senior party stalwarts have signaled that they will run for the post of general secretary.

Former executive director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, Joan Gordon Webley, and former deputy leader and Member of Parliament for North West St James, Dr Horace Chang, are the early contenders.

In an interview earlier today Webley said she was confident that the majority of the delegates would line up behind her in the race.
