Find replacement before disbanding JCF review committee - Chuck

The Opposition spokesperson on national security, Delroy Chuck says the government must suggest another solution, if it insists on disbanding the oversight committee for the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

National Security Minister Peter Bunting is quoted as saying it is likely that the Strategic Review Committee for the JCF will be dismantled.

However, his opposition counterpart Delroy Chuck said while he has no problem with this decision a replacement must first be identified.

He said it is obvious that reform is needed because the force isn’t performing as it should and is plagued by a number of problems.

The security minister has suggested that one solution being looked at is to have other oversight bodies in the JCF take on the task of the Strategic Review Committee.

The Committee was established in 2007 to look at reforming the police force.
