Work begins on Hellshire road project

2012-10-09 12:45:11 | (0 Comments)

The National Works Agency (NWA) has begun a major rehabilitation project along the Hellshire Main Road in Portmore, St Catherine.

NWA Communications Manager, Stephen Shaw, said sections of the six-kilometre roadway will be repaved with asphalted concrete.

He said preparatory work is now underway and the project is expected to be completed before Christmas.

Meanwhile, Shaw said the Rio Grande Bridge in Portland will be reopened on Thursday.

The new bridge was constructed to replace the old Rio Grande Bridge which collapsed during the passage of Hurricane Dennis in July, 2005.

It was constructed as part of the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme at a cost of approximately US$28.3 million.
