Seaga’s land reclamation idea worth considering says Espeut

2012-10-10 14:34:34 | with audio | (0 Comments)

Environmentalist Peter Espeut says the suggestion by former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga for Jamaica to reclaim land in Kingston Harbour at Fort Augusta should be explored.

Yesterday, Seaga told a joint sitting of the parliament that reclaiming lands at Fort Augusta or Caymanas would make sense because Jamaica is virtually on the coastline of the world’s richest economy.

Seaga believes Jamaica’s strategic location creates a centre of preference for Jamaica to exploit in developing or finishing products.

However, Espeut said Jamaica should be exploring the option of manufacturing goods which will only require a rail system.

He also said while the ideas are good, environmental impact assessments must be done before they are implemented.
