Road rage shooter to be sentenced

2012-10-10 17:21:39 | (0 Comments)

Barbara Gayle, Justice Coordinator

Forty-seven -year-old businessman Leroy Fearon, of Cave Hill Estates, St Catherine who was convicted last month of gun offences which resulted after a road rage incident is to be sentenced tomorrow.

He should have been sentenced today but Supreme Court Judge Lloyd Hibbert has given Fearon's lawyer more time to research the Firearms Act.

One of the sticking points in Fearon's case is the minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years.

Some lawyers have expressed the view that the section of the Act dealing with the minimum mandatory sentence should be repealed.

The lawyers feel that sentencing should be at a judge's discretion.

Fearon who is a licensed firearm holder is to be sentenced on charges of illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent.

Evidence was given in the Gun Court that Fearon shot a security guard who had hit his car at the intersection of Half Way Tree Road and Oxford Road.
