Partnership for Transformation talks fruitful

Participants in the resurrected Partnership for Transformation talks have used their first meeting to identify the key areas for discussion.

The broad based National Council of government, opposition, private sector, academics, civil society and trade union leaders met yesterday at Jamaica House for the first time in more than a year.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, who chaired the meeting, has described the talks as a fruitful start.

The group reportedly identified the pending IMF agreement and matters affecting the economy, the labour market, productivity and public sector efficiency among the key issues to be addressed in the talks.

The meeting also agreed to develop a work plan around a set of realistic and achievable objectives.

The Office of the Prime minister also said Simpson Miller stated that the partnership was critical now more than ever.

She said while the meetings of the Council will normally be scheduled for every two months, special meetings will be convened should the need arise.
