Nine persons are homeless and $4.35 million worth of property lost as a result of fires which occurred in Manchester in September.

Assistant Deputy Superintendent of the Manchester Fire Department, Fitzroy Green made the disclosure at the monthly Parish Council meeting in Mandeville yesterday.

He said that in one case, a fire started by children in Larmond Town District resulted in a loss of $1.5 million and left seven persons homeless.

Superintendent Green also mentioned other fires in Lancaster, Kendal, Sawmill, and Coleyville which also resulted in millions of dollars in damage.

He also noted that the fire unit at the Christiana fire station is down again after being repaired two months ago.

Meanwhile, Mayor Brenda Ramsay has pleaded to the councillors to solicit the support of the private sector to obtain a new fire unit for the parish.
