A policeman was shot and injured and three men taken into police custody following a shootout this morning in Downs, Manchester.

Reports from the police are that men broke into a mini-mart in Downs District when the police were called in minutes after 3 a.m. On arrival at the scene, a shootout reportedly ensued between the police and the men, resulting in one police being shot in the foot, but is said to be not seriously injured.

A man was held on location by police in a van with some of the goods. Two other men escaped, but were quickly nabbed by the police in the Spur Tree area.

The police are now on the hunt for another man who reportedly left the scene earlier in a Toyota Hiace van.

“We have sent out an island wide advisory, so the police in every parish are on high alert for the next man driving the Hiace van,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Derrick Cochrane, head of Area 3 said.
