Dave Lindo, Gleaner Writer

More than 100 men were detained following a major police operation in Mandeville, Manchester this morning.

Superintendent Lascelles Taylor says the raids were a part of the division’s initiative dubbed “Operation Zero Tolerance” aimed at cracking down on criminal activities.

It lasted for eight hours and included personnel from the Mobile Reserves, Canine Division, the Area 5 police, and the St. Elizabeth and Manchester police division.

Superintendent Taylor says searches were conducted at crime hotspots as well as bars and nightclubs.

He says charges have since been laid against 20 men and more charges are expected soon.

Superintendent Taylor is urging wanted criminals to turn themselves in saying the police will be relentless in pursing criminal elements.
