Local Government and Community Development minister, Noel Arscott, says the government is currently seeking funding to repair fire hydrants across Jamaica.
The issue of malfunctioning fire hydrants was raised last evening by persons attending a public forum at the Jose Marti High School in St Catherine. Responding to frustrated residents of the parish, Arscott said the government was moving to urgently address the deficiencies identified by a recent audit. There have been repeated complaints that fire personnel continue to turn up to the scenes of fires without water, only to find the nearest hydrant out of service.
