Motor vehicle examiner, office attendant arrested
2012-10-19 15:49:12 | (0 Comments)
A senior examiner at the Morant Bay Motor Vehicle Examination Depot and an Office Attendant are now in police custody on corruption charges.
The police say examiner Linden Simpson and office attendant Icina Colley were arrested during an under-cover operation conducted by the Traffic Department, the Revenue Protection Division, Mobile Reserve and the Anti-Corruption Branch.
The man and the woman have been charged with breaches of the Anti-corruption Act after a fitness certificate was issued without the vehicle being examined.
The police say more than $140,000 was also found in the examiner’s car.
They say the joint operation was arranged after the police received information about corrupt activities at the depot where driver’s licenses were also being issued without the applicant being tested.
Simpson and Colley are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
