A new Walker Cup Knockout champion will be crowned this season after St George’s College were thrown out of contention this afternoon.
The North Street-based defending champions were beaten 2-1 by pre-season favourites Wolmer’s Boys in their quarter-final clash. The game was played at the Constant Spring field. Wolmer’s Boys scored two goals in three minutes after St George’s College had taken a 28th-minute lead through Carlo Benbow. Jaheel Hyde equalised for Wolmer’s Boys in the 50th minute and Jason Wright scored the winning goal in the 53rd minute. As a result of the victory, Wolmer’s Boys have earned a semi-final date with last year’s beaten finalist Kingston College next Tuesday. Kingston College got into the semi-final following a 1-nil victory over Charlie Smith in an earlier game at the venue. Dorvil Jackson scored the lone goal in the 81st minute. The other quarter-finals games will take place tomorrow, also at the Constant Spring field. sports@gleanerjm.com Source: The Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to youreport@gleanerjm.com | Click here to Comment Your Comments
