Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is urging the private sector to invest more in sports development.

Simpson Miller’s call came after she revealed on Thursday that the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) spent just under $400 million in the last fiscal year on various sporting programmes across the island.

While acknowledging the contribution of several private sector companies that have invested in sports, Simpson Miller says more has to be done.

She notes the SDF has been playing its role with some assistance from the Budget, but says that it is insufficient.

Simpson Miller was speaking at the annual Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence which was won this year by Olympian Veronica Campbell-Brown.
