Projects to boost economy progressing, says PM

The government says several projects to boost the economy have been progressing as planned.

In a statement this afternoon from Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on cabinet’s two-day retreat, Simpson Miller outlined that construction of 50 basic schools and over 600 dwellings for low income families was underway. The project is being pursued in partnership with Food for the Poor.

She also stated that the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme had exceeded
its targets in phase one and was on its way to exceeding its targets under phase two of the programme.

The administration is also accelerating the handing over of land titles to Jamaicans across the island and will be implementing major private sector investments in the hotel, ICT and agricultural sectors to increase employment by the end of the fiscal year.

Simpson Miller reported that progress has also been made on dealing with loans for tertiary education.
