No fuel, Pedro Cays fishermen stranded

2012-10-23 18:45:32 | (0 Comments)

There are indications this evening that several fishermen are now stranded on the Pedro Cays as they are without boat fuel to head back home.

For several weeks fishermen have been complaining that there has been a shortage boat fuel and speaking a short while ago on RJR 94FM, one fisherman, Lennox Stewart, said the situation is now grave.

“It is going to be one of the worse situation we going to see,” he said.

According to Stewart, people on the cays are now swapping fishing wire for gas in a desperate bid to get home.

"The situation is serious," he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Jamaica Fishermen Cooperative Society, Havlan Honeyghan, says the situation needs the intervention of the Coast Guard.

At the same time, he said it must be made mandatory for fishermen to be evacuated from the cays in the event of a major storm.
