108 people now in shelters

As tropical Storm Sandy move closer to Jamaica on the brink of becoming a hurricane, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reporting that a total of 108 persons are in shelters.

But the figure could be higher as not all reports have been made to the ODPEM coordination centre.

At least seven of those in shelters were reported to be children.

Kingston has recorded the highest shelter occupancy .

Kingston
32 persons at the Tavern Community Centre
6 at the National Arena
33 at the St Benedicts Church
17 at Friendship Brook.
