Disabled elderly man needs rescue

Elderly Noel Angus lay huddled with his little belongings under a flimsy umbrella on the concrete seating at the west entrance to St Williams Grant Park in downtown Kingston awaiting Hurricane Sandy.

Unable to walk, with one leg amputated because of diabetes and the other infested, Angus needs to be removed to a shelter.

“Yuh know how long him deh deh, over two months now, and me a beg police and ambulance fi come for him and all now,” said a vendor, who was out in raincoat and umbrella selling her wares on the outside of the Redemption Market.

“Rain, sun, day and night, him don’t move from that spot.”

Angus said he would be willing to move, “but me cyaan walk, dem have to come for me.”

He feels the umbrella is adequate shelter from the pelting rain and pending storm.

At least two police vehicles drove by as The Gleaner team was speaking with the poorly attired senior citizen who was exposed to the elements.

It is hoped that someone will come to his rescue before Sandy hits the Kingston coast in just a few hours.
