A massive search is now on in St Catherine following a jail break at the Portmore police station this morning.

It is reported that around 4:30 a.m., the police were conducting routine checks of the cell when they realised that the five inmates were missing.

They reportedly escaped by cutting the bars and grille at the ventilated area in the cell.

A search has been launched with the assistance of a helicopter to recapture the prisoners.

In recent times overcrowding has been a problem at the facility.

The police have since released the names of the five escapees.

They are:

• 18-year-old Amir Hanson of Portmore Villa, Portmore, St. Catherine, charged for shooting with intent.

• 19-year-old Andrew Edwards, charged with robbery with aggravation.

• 33-year-old Marvin Barnett of Spanish town, charged with murder.

• 31-year-old Jomo Burnett of Gregory Park, St. Catherine, charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

• 34-year-old Oshane Thomas of Braeton, St. Catherine, charged for illegal possession of firearm and robbery with aggravation.

Anyone who has seen or anyone knowing the whereabouts of these men is being asked to contact the Portmore Police at 949-8422, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest Police Station.
