The island's largest building society, the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), through its remittance arm is offering a 50 per cent reduction on fees to send money transfers over the next seven days.

General Manager of JN Money Services Limited (JNMS)Leesa Kow made the announcement today as part of what she said was the company's efforts "to assist in the national recovery programme following the passage of Hurricane Sandy".

According to Ms Kow, “the discount is geared to facilitate the response to provide assistance for relatives and friends, particularly persons in the parishes of St Thomas, Portland and St Mary, who were significantly affected by the passage of Hurricane Sandy”.

The special offer is applicable from October 26 to November 1 and is being extended to Jamaicans in the diaspora remitting funds to local relatives and friends, via JN Money Transfer, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The category one hurricane made landfall on Wednesday, October 24, resulting in flooding, landslides, and damage to homes and commercial properties; as well as the loss of livestock and agricultural produce. One person in the parish of Portland died when his house was damaged by a boulder.

Miss Kow noted that JN Money Transfer, with its network of branches and agents locally and overseas, is well positioned to contribute to the recovery efforts. The company has more than 350 branches and agents globally, located across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ghana, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
