May Pen cops on extortion charges granted bail

Three policemen from the May Pen Criminal Investigation Branch were this morning each granted bail in the sum of $500,000 on extortion charges.

The three were charged after attempting to extract money from a Chinese businessman.

According to reports, Constable Gregory Johnson, Corporal Rohan Parker and Sergeant David Williams attempted to extort $200,000 from the businessman for not reporting that his wife didn’t have a permit to work in Jamaica.

It is reported that $70,000 was paid over to Corporal Parker by the businessman.

When the policemen appeared before the May Pen Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, they were also ordered to surrender their travel documents and report to the May Pen police station every day.

They are schedule to re-appear before the court on May 2 next year.
