Edmond Campbell, Senior Staff Reporter

The country’s tough-talking Contractor General Greg Christie says his office had made substantial inroads in the fight to eliminate corruption, fraud, impropriety, irregularity, waste and inefficiency from Government contracting and licensing in Jamaica.

In his final annual report to Parliament, Christie said his time at the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) over the past seven years, had been spent productively and energetically.

He argued that despite legislative and operating constraints, the OCG had succeeded in carrying out all its stated objectives.

According to Christie the strategic and operating objectives of the OCG during his tenure included transforming the Commission into a ‘best in class’ anti-corruption institution and reducing corruption in government contracting.

The OCG had also set out to ensure compliance with the government’s procurement procedures and enhancing transparency, accountability and probity in Jamaica’s contract award and licence issue processes.
