Room tax payment deadline today

2012-10-31 09:10:09 | (0 Comments)

Today is the deadline for property operators in the hospitality industry to remit the recently imposed room tax to the government.

The tax applies to all operators of guest accommodations for each night or occasion that a room is occupied.

The levy affects hotels, bed and breakfast operators, villas and apartments, motels, guest houses, resort cottages and timeshare operators.

A per-room rate of US$1 is charged for properties with 1 to 50 rooms, with a US$2 for operators with a property comprising between 51 and 100 rooms.

A tax of US$4 is charged for properties with 101 rooms and over.

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says operators are required to file and pay the tax using the prescribed form which is available on its website.

It also says persons needing additional information may contact their local tax office or speak with TAJ’s customer care agents at 1-888-TAX-HELP (829-4357) or email queries to taxhelp@taj.gov.jm.
