Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Gregory Mair is calling for the energy minister, Phillip Paulwell to resign amid what he says appears to be a disconnect between the minister and the Cabinet.

His call follows the Government’s move to appeal the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) licence was invalid.

In July, the Supreme Court ruled that the energy minister does not have the power to grant an exclusive licence to the JPS.

Mair says the Government’s appeal of the court ruling is in direct contradiction to Paulwell’s stated policy positions pushing for a break up of the JPS monopoly.

Mair says if Paulwell does not resign then he needs to make it absolutely clear to the country whether he now supports the JPS monopoly.
