The ODPEM’s Director General, Ronald Jackson, says the Ministry of Labour and Social Security was tasked with conducting the assessment and furnishing a detailed report on those most in need.
Jackson says the agency will review the report and identify the areas of priority for intervention.
He adds that his office will be working as part of a task force dealing with the relief efforts, which will involve the Ministry of Finance, the Planning Institute of Jamaica and a number of non-government organizations.
In a presentation to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller sought to assure that the distribution of hurricane relief supplies would be given only to the needy.
Initial figures have shown that the government might have to find over five billion dollars to carry out repair works following the passage of the hurricane last week.
