Kintyre bridge construction begins

2012-11-02 17:24:09 | (0 Comments)

Construction work has started on a new bridge in the community of Kintyre, Eastern St Andrew.

The old bridge was destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Sandy on October 24.

State Minister in the Transport and Works Ministry Richard Azan says work is now underway on a detour road which will ensure that access to the community continues for motorists and pedestrians, while the new bridge is being built.

The Kintyre bridge is the main access road used by residents of Hope Flats, Cosmo Mews, Clarke Street, St Joseph’s Road, Bedward Pastures and surrounding areas.

A budget of $100 million has been set aside to carry out the work which includes river training activities.

Azan says the bridge is scheduled to be built within six months.
