Prosecution witness maintains he is telling the truth

The former policeman who is the main witness at the Boulevard murder trial today denied suggestions under cross-examination that he was lying under oath.

The witness also identified two photographs which were shown to him in court as the men who were apprehended at the shopping plaza.

The Crown is alleging that Oliver Duncan and Kemar Wallets were abducted by policemen from a plaza on Washington Boulevard, St Andrew on December 23, 2004 and have not been seen since.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Victor Barrett and Constables Paul Edwards and Louis Lynch have been on trial in the Home Circuit Court since last week Monday.

Under cross-examination, the witness denied suggestions that he lied to former Assistant Commissioner of Police Mark Shields in an effort to secure his release from murder charges in relation to Duncan and Walters.

Asked if the statement he gave in May 2009 led to the dropping of all charges against him, the witness said he was not charged with anything.

He said he was in custody and was being questioned about the apprehension and disappearance of the two men and that he was placed on identification parades but was not pointed out.

The witness will be further cross-examined tomorrow when the trial resumes before Justice Horace Marsh and the 12-member jury.
