Grenada Opposition wants Parliament resumed

Grenada’s main opposition New National Party has called for Prime Minister Tillman Thomas to reconvene Parliament to allow legislators to debate the current state of the local economy.

Former finance minister Anthony Boatswain made the call against the background of the recent decision by Standards & Poor's to reduce Grenada's foreign currency sovereign credit rating after the island missed payment on a bond due on September 15.

Boatswain said the party is again calling for the government to urgently reconvene parliament to allow for a debate on the state of the economy.

Grenada's Prime Minister Tillman Thomas announced on September 17, that the Parliament had prorogued early.

The seventh Grenadian Parliament opened on March 29 this year and was scheduled to come to an end on March 31 next year.
