A joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament will be held today to honour former Prime Minister P. J. Patterson.

The special tribute will recognize the contribution of Patterson to Jamaica’s post-independence development.

Patterson, whose political career spanned almost four decades is Jamaica’s longest serving Prime Minister having been Head of Government from 1992 to 2006, when he retired.

The joint sitting is slated to begin at 2 o’ clock this afternoon and will be attended by former Parliamentarians, public officials and members of the diplomatic corps.

A similar special tribute was held in October to honour former Prime Minister Edward Seaga.

The special sittings are part of celebrations by the Houses of Parliament to mark Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence.
